Independent Novel Study Project
Students in the 5ème SI group embarked on their Independent Novel Study Project by “sampling” the menu at Ms. McBride’s Book Cafe.
What’s on the menu?
A diverse selection of 24 contemporary books! Students “sampled” the books by exploring their covers and reading short extracts in order to select a book that best suits their interests for their year-long project.
During our year-long Independent Novel Study, a project completed in 6eme, 5eme, and 4eme SI Literature classes, our students were given the opportunity to think critically about a modern text of their choosing, planting the seeds for a lifelong love of reading!
These images showcase how 6eme SI students were invited to come to Ms. Ruocco’s class dressed as a character from their chosen novel or with an object that somehow connected to their story.
Students took turns sharing how their costume or object represented something meaningful, sharing their thoughts and passion about their chosen work with their classmates during a fun and interactive day!
