In period 1, the CM1 English class studied Culture and Sensibility and focused on Gender Equality in toys.

They looked at the local toy catalog and created a poster about gender myths around toys for girls and toys for boys. They were very impressed that even in 2022, there are still ‘pink’ pages with toys for girls and ‘blue’ pages with toys for boys. They did find that there were some green and yellow pages for more neutral toys so it seems as though things are improving a bit.

In period 1, the class studied electricity in DNL and created a prototype for an electric circuit toy using electrical equipment and some recycled materials. Their final challenge was to build a circuit toy where they had to move around a metal wand while avoiding turning on a lightbulb.
