Ypres, Belgium : April 8th-9th, 2026
From April 8th-10th, 2026 the students in 3ème SIA – International American Section – embarked on an adventurous journey of discovery and fun to Ypres, Belgium.
Ypres is a city filled with history about WWI, a topic which is studied as part of the 3ème SIA history and geography program. Their knowledge of the War was solidified and reinforced through the experience of the “Last Post” at Menin Gate upon our arrival on Wednesday evening and visits to the In Flanders Fields Museum on Thursday and Hill ‘62 Sanctuary Wood Museum on Friday. These visits were an excellent balance between guided visits, outdoor activities, completion of related worksheets, and personal exploration of the replicas of dugouts and trenches.
While this school trip was heavily focused on the history and geography element of the SIA program, the students were able to incorporate and showcase their literary prowess by reciting two poems at strategic sites : In Flanders Fields by John McCrae was recited at the entrance to the museum of the same name, and Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, at the Sanctuary Wood Cemetery.
These were poems which the students studied in class in preparation for this amazing adventure.Needless to say this was a school trip that the students will remember and cherish for years to come.
